BlackCovid19.com presents the African-American coronavirus experience
BlackCovid19.com aggregates content related to the African-Americans experience with coronavirus and
COVID-19. It features articles, videos, podcasts, opinion, humor, and links to resources all related to the African-American experience with Coronavirus and COVID-19.
The purpose of BlackCovid19.com is not to cast blame or criticism for how blacks are managing through the crisis, but rather to consolidate the best content related to the African-American coronavirus experience. The primary purpose of the site is to educate, inform, empower and provide a destination for self edification and enlightenment. The site is fast becoming a one-stop repository for a composite look at the black coronavirus experience that will serve as a valuable resource in the classroom and for the curious for years to come. “We are all in this together but we’re all not going through it the same way. BlackCovid19.com makes it easy to connect with the black coronavirus experience as it unfolds,” says creator Stefan Roots.
Designed and launched by long-time community blogger Stefan Roots, he sensed from the beginning of the crisis black people would be impacted differently than the general public and began to capture some of the most relevant content on coronavirus and COVID-19 as it relates to African Americans. “There is plenty of content on blacks and coronavirus coming from a lot of different sources and I thought it would be important to collect much of it in a single destination for people interested in the variety of thought, action, and policy concerning blacks and the virus consolidated all in one place,” says Roots.
Since the site launched on March 13, it has been loaded with hundreds of articles, videos, opinion posts, and links all related to the black experience with coronavirus and COVID-19. “I committed to exclusively writing coronavirus blog posts on my Chester, PA community blog, a majority black city, right after learning NCAA March Madness was cancelled. Soon afterwards, I decided to create a separate site and was amused to find every imaginable URL I considered was available before settling on BlackCovid19.com. I had no idea how fast new issues would flood the media related to the disproportionate health crisis in America; the systemic policies that factor into the Black health crisis; the misinformation circulating in black communities regarding the virus; the under reporting of African-American COVID-19 cases; the COVID-19 testing disparities; and how the virus impacts blacks in social, mental, financial, and family ways.”
