Strickland, Suppa lead Upper Darby

-

It took a little while for the Upper Darby to get its offense going Thursday night.

The Blue Sox tallied four runs in the top of the seventh inning in their Delco League opener to rally for a 6-5 triumph over Concord at Glen Mills Schools.

Joey Suppa provided the big blow for the Sox with a bases-clearing double that tied the game. Christian Strickland followed with a single up the middle to plate Suppa with the go-ahead run. Strickland finished 2-for-4 and Suppa went 3-for-4 on the night. McNamee also went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

“Joe Suppa’s on fire,” Upper Darby manager Dave Jerdon said. “He picked up where he left off. He had a really good season last year.”

Ben Mutz pitched the final two innings to get the win.

“It was a nice to see our team get a win over a good Concord team early in the season,” Jerdon said. “We’re really young.” In other action Thursday:
