COLLINGDALE » Protest is one of the founding rights of the county and on July 4th, a large group of Americans exercising that right took part in a rally supporting Black Lives Matter which was held at Pusey Park.

The event was organized by two area women, Taylor Shiflett of Sharon Hill and Ashley Dolceamore of Glenolden,

who organized a similar event in Glenolden a few weeks ago.

“This is right versus wrong. We’re not fighting a race war, we are fighting for what is right. It’s not about Black or white; it’s not about disbelief about Blackness. It’s about what’s right and wrong,” said Dan Walker to the large group gathered under a blazing sun. “We are just part of centuries trying to make change. One thing we’ve made very clear is enough is enough. We are not standing for this anymore. We’re not standing for what’s wrong anymore.”

Organizers said they will continue the fight for change in the justice system. Following the rally, protesters marched along MacDade Boulevard to the Collingdale Community Center.

Protesters held signs calling for change as numerous passing motorists sounded their horns in support.

One resident shouted, “Keep it up! Black Lives Matter!”

as they passed her home.

The protesters were joined by Collingdale police who walked beside them.

“We have to show support for our community,” said Collingdale Police Chief Kenneth Felker. “There are some officers out there who don’t do the right thing, but our officers do. We’re just participating, making sure everyone is safe and that everyone can protest and exercise their constitutional rights.”
