Donkin delivers in the clutch for Springfiel­d

Norm Donkin proved once again he’s pretty good in the clutch.

Donkin’s RBI single chased home Gabe Encarnacio­n home to cap a four-run rally in the seventh inning that gave the Springfiel­d Colonials a 9-8 victory over the Marple Newtown Black Sox in the Delco League Sunday.

Donkin finished with three hits and two RBIs. Encarnacio­n had two doubles, Brendan Ricciardi drove in the tying run with a single and Gerard Sweeney had two hits and two RBIs. Dillon Bevan fanned three in two innings to get the win.

WAYNE 9, CONCORD 0 » Bill Corcoran, Culver Hughes, Matt Eiel and Will Carey combined on a one-hit shutout for the defending champs.

Corcoran went three innings to get the win. He struck out four and allowed the only hit, a single to Jones. Hughes and Eiel threw one inning each, and Carey tossed the final two frames. It was the second straight shutout and third of the season for Wayne.

Alden Mathes, Nate Sides and Luke Mutz paced the offense. Mathes was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sides drove in three runs and Mutz was 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and two RBIs. NARBERTH 3, CHESTER 2 » Pitchers Tom Kane and Frank Driscoll made Jim Quinn’s three-run homer in the second inning stand up as the winning hit on Saturday.

Kane went the first four innings to get the win, and Driscoll fanned seven in three innings to nail down the save. Each allowed an earned run.

Who says pitching doesn’t matter in slow pitch softball?

Rob Benigni allowed just eight hits in each game and three runs total as Stephen’s on State swept DiGravio Plumbing/Barnaby’s of Aston 2, 17-2 and 9-1, in the Millennium League.

Benigni also had five hits overall and drove in two runs in the opener. Jimmy Jenkins finished with six hits and four RBI.
