Wayne wins to close out regular season BASEBALL

Ashton Raines, Santino Nave and Will Peiffer made sure Wayne finished the Delco League regular season on a strong note.

The trio combined on a three-hitter to lead the defending champions to a 5-1 victory over Marple Newtown in the regular-season finale Sunday.

Raines allowed one hit and struck out two in two innings. Nave fanned two in three hitless innings, and Peiffer surrendere­d two hits, one earned run and whiffed three in two innings. Peiffer also had a double and a run scored.

Dan Williams paced the offense with two RBIs. Tommy Jacobs and Luke Mutz drove in one run each.

David Judge hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Black Sox to spoil the shutout bid.

Wayne closed out the season with a six-game winning streak and a 10-game unbeaten streak to grab the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, which begin Tuesday. Wayne hosts eighth-seeded Concord Tuesday night at Devon Prep. The sites for the rest of the series have not been determined.

In the other quarterfin­al series, No. 2 Narberth takes on No. 7 Chester, No. 3 Springfiel­d plays No. 6 Upper Darby and No. 4 Aston Valley takes on No. 5 Marple Newtown. Sites are to be determined.

In the Delco MSBL: DELCO TIGERS 7, CLIFTON ORIOLES 3 » Zach Imburgia went the route for the Tigers. Imburgia allowed five hits and struck out nine. He also had two hits and two runs scored. Randy Blanda went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Jake Phillips reached base three times for the Orioles. He went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Softball

Collin DiGalbo’s leadoff homer set the tone as Marty Magee’s Knights dumped Hunt’s Raiders twice in the Millennium League Sunday,

18-12 and 14-5.

DiGalbo finished with five RBIs in the opener. Mark Despeaux added three RBIs. Anthony DiGalbo plated three runs in the nightcap and Sean Ryan was 3-for-4. Mike Labuski picked up two wins to improve to 6-0.

STEPHEN’S ON STATE 20-18, BRICK & BREW BANDITS 1-8 » Bobby Jones went 8-for-8 with seven RBIs in his first action in 10 months. Jason Aikens had a pretty good day, too. He was 7-for-7 with a double, triple and seven ribbies.

Dan Ryan was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs in the opener and Rob Benigni got both wins. MISFITS 27-9, MCGILLICUD­DY’S OF ESSINGTON 23-19 » Vince Belissimo went 9-for10 in the twinbill for the cud chewers. George Ochanski, Kevin Cook and Sean McFadden all went yard in Game 2 to help ‘Cuddy’s gain the split.
