Darby man sought in murder of 7-year-old
Philadelphia police are seeking a Darby Borough resident and another man in connection with the fatal shooting of 7-year-old Zamar Jones on Saturday.
Jones was shot in the head while playing on his front porch in the 200 block of North Simpson Street in West Philadelphia Saturday evening and was pronounced dead Monday at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police have already arrested Christopher Linder, 27, who faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons and theft charges for the Aug. 1 shootout.
Linder reportedly drove onto the 200 block of Simpson Street at about 7:30 p.m. and unloaded a hail of gunfire at a group of people standing outside, prompting two others to fire back. Jones was struck and killed as a result of that exchange. Linder allegedly stole another vehicle to make his getaway and was later arrested when he returned for his own car.
Police are still looking for two other gunmen allegedly involved in the shootout: Damar Bashier Jones,
27, whose last known address was in the 2000 block of South Salford Street, and Michael Banks, 30, whose last known addresses include the 2100 block of South Dagget Street in Philadelphia and first block of North 10th Street in Darby.
Both men should be considered armed and dangerous, Philadelphia police have warned. If seen, do not approach the men, but instead contact police at 215686-TIPS, phillypolice.com, or 911. A $20,000 reward is being offered for their arrest and conviction.
