Smith sharp as Springfiel­d takes opener

Mike Smith and Dan Ouimette combined on a five-hitter as the Springfiel­d Colonials opened the Delco League playoffs with a 10-0 victory over the Upper Darby Blue Sox Wednesday night.

Springfiel­d can close out the

best-of-3 quarterfin­al series with a win at Church Road Field Thursday night.

Smith fanned nine and scattered four hits in six innings. Ouimette allowed one hit and struck out one in the seventh inning to close the game out.

Gabe Encarnacio­n went

3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI to pace the offense. Cole Palis added two hits and two RBIs, while Mark Gervasi, Matt Shepherd and Mitch Helmandoll­ar

had two hits and one RBI apiece.

In other quarterfin­al action: WAYNE 8, CONCORD 2 » Luke Mutz went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, four RBIs and two runs scored to give the defending champs a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is Thursday night at Devon Prep.

Sean Molhollen added a hit and two RBIs. Wayne broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jimmy Kingsbury allowed four hits, one run and struck out seven in five innings to get the win.

Frank Saviski went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Canes. MARPLE NEWTOWN 7, ASTON VALLEY3» The Black Sox scored five times in the bottom of the second inning to break the game open and take a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is Thursday night at Marple Newtown High School.

Andrew Smith and Jack O’Reilly drove in two runs each, while C.J. Costales went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Mark Anderson struck out nine in six innings to get the win.

Quintin Ivy had a hit and two RBIs for the Knights. NARBERTH 8, CHESTER 5 » The Mudcats needed a five-run outburst in the third inning and a solid effort from Frank Driscoll to hold off Chester.

Tyler Kehoe’s three-run double capped the five-run outburst that gave Narberth an 8-3 lead.

Tommy Toal knocked in two runs, and Ryan Guckin added three hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Chester put single runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings and had a leadoff double from Steven Wells in the seventh. Driscoll, though, got two strikeouts and a fly ball to close out the game.

Wells went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Chester. Game 2 is Thursday night at Narberth Park.
