100 Years Ago – 1920:

C. Frank Worrilow, veteran letter carrier of the Chester Post Office, has retired by the United States Postal Service after 30 years of active duty, and is now on a pension. The well-known postal attache, despite the fact that he is 70 years old, believes he is as spry as ever. Worrilow distribute­d mall in the upper section of Chester all but one year and was well liked by all his patrons.

75 Years Ago – 1945:

Chester was taking young Ray Wanzel to its heart this afternoon as Rehabilita­tion Fund contributi­ons neared the $1,000 mark and additional gifts continued to pour in. The V-J accident victim, recovering in Crozer Hospital from the traffic accident which cost him his left hand when a bomb exploded, will benefit by artificial limbs and special training as a result of the fund now being raised.

50 Years Ago – 1970:

About 75 children living in a section of Bridgewate­r Farms will be allowed to attend schools in the Penn-Delco Union School District next month. The controvers­y involving the residents of Bridgewate­r Farms began 12 years ago. The community straddles the boundary between Aston and Chester townships. A portion, previously in Chester Township, was annexed by Aston in 1958.

Chester Township School District claimed that financial hardship would result if students from that portion were allowed to switch to the Penn-Delco district.

25 Years Ago – 1995:

Sun Co. will have a special meeting tomorrow night to inform Marcus Hook council and borough residents about its upcoming propylene splitter project. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The new Sun project will include a new splitter which will consist of two 200-foot towers as well as new and modified propylene and feed stock unloading storage transfer facilities. Completion is expected in January 1997 at which time Sun’s propylene capacity will be increased to 650 million pounds a year.

10 Years Ago – 2010:

Hundreds of students, city residents and other volunteers lent a hand or two Saturday to participat­e in Chester’s eighth annual Citywide Cleanup. “This has grown tremendous­ly,” Mayor Wendell N. Butler Jr. said. This year, hundreds of people were involved in sprucing up the city, including 600 Widener University students, 350 Eastern University students and the 25-member Harrah’s Entertainm­ent Reaching Out team.
