SHOCKTOBERFEST FRIGHT NIGHTS BEGIN THIS WEEKEND
Shocktoberfest Haunted Theme Park, which has been rated No. 3 best extreme haunted attraction in the nation by USA Today, opens for the season on Friday with some new attractions and COVID-19 safeguards in place.
For its 29th season, the Berks County attraction has added the Zombie Safari Walking Tour, Midway Massacre Scare Zone, Spooktoberfest and Truck n Brew to its bag of tricks.
Certain other attractions have been eliminated due to the difficulties of offering them safely. These include the Zombie Experience, Prison of the Dead Escape Room, The Torture Chamber, Almost Naked and Scared Challenge,
Paintball Hayride and The Zombie Night Run.
All guests, staff and actors will be required to wear facemasks and follow social distancing. And tickets will be timed to limit attendance. Advance purchases are highly recommended.
Other attractions that are open for the 2020 season include The Prison of the Dead, a 50,000-squarefoot condemned prison compound; The Unknown 2.0, a phobia themed haunted house that uses proprietary cinematic 3D effects; Ground Assault: Zombie Laser Tag, where guests battle zombies with a tactical laser gun; Midway Massacre, a midway Scare Zone; Club Shock, a haunted night club with a full bar and live bands and DJs; and the Midway, with shows, games, music and food at ShocktoberFeast, food trucks and Shockers Café.
For youngsters, SpooktoberFest, a family-friendly
Halloween experience for children 12 and younger along with their parents and grandparents, runs from 5 to 7 p.m. nightly. It includes the Unknown 2.0 Spooky Haunted House, Midway Massacre Boo Zone, and Laser Tag. Additional, plus pumpkin painting and carnival games. Children are welcome to wear costumes.
Shocktoberfest is located at Willow Glen Park, 94 Park Ave., Sinking Spring. It is open Fridays and Saturdays in September and Fridays through Sundays in October, plus Nov. 1, 6 and 7.
The ticket booth opens at 5 p.m. and attractions at 7 p.m. Truck N Brew, featuring food trucks, live music or DJs, opens at 5 p.m. nightly.
