Giant plans to hire 4,000 permanent employees
CARLISLE » The Giant Company said it plans to hire 4,000 part- and full-time employees to meet the continuing demand for groceries across its geographic footprint.
“With the increased demand for both in-store and online grocery shopping continuing, we are looking to hire in all areas of the business throughout the holiday season and beyond, helping us deliver on our purpose of connecting families for a better future, while having fun along the way,” Matthew Lutcavage, vice president of human resources, The Giant Company, said in a press release.
The company is looking to fill positions at its stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia including openings for cashiers, stocking, deli and other fresh departments. In addition, the Giant Company’s distribution center in Carlisle the Giant Direct facilities in Camp Hill and Lancaster are hiring for order selectors and delivery drivers.
Giant operates 14 stores in Chester County, 9 stores in Delaware County and 21 stores in Montgomery County.
“The Giant Company culture is one of inclusion and belonging, where everyone is respected, valued and heard,” Lutcavage added. “With immediate openings across the organization, new team members will be immersed in a robust training program, rooted in the company’s newly launched brand platform, For Today’s Table.”
The new brand platform was launched in August, and builds on the new company name, logo and purpose launched by the company earlier this year. For Today’s Table represents the idea that the world is a better place when families come together at their table and connect over a meal, no matter where their table may be,” the company said in announcing the platform.
Elements of the For Today’s Table platform are being rolled out for customers and employees through mass media, digital and social channels, and will also include modernized store décor, refreshed employee work wear and an update of all delivery and transport vehicles with familyfocused graphics, the company said.
A new television commercial launched on Sept. 3, and features five families that were asked to film themselves. The campaign is focused on “real people telling real stories about real life,” according to Giant.
Two of the families highlighted in the commercial are from Montgomery County. They are the Ly family of Montgomery Township — Stacy and Trung Ly and their children, Jocelyn (7), Quinn (5) and Stella (3); and the Butt family of Pennsburg — Tanisha Butt, 13-year-old twin daughters Deysha and Deyahna Nelson and Butt’s mother Ruby Conquest.
Since the beginning of the year, The Giant Company has hired approximately 7,000 temporary and part-time team members across its brands, which includes Giant, Martin’s, Giant Direct, Martin’s Direct and Giant Heirloom Market, bringing the total number of employees to 35,000.
