• Child Guidance Resource Centers: Join from October 4-31, as we virtually take to the trails for the 8th Annual One Stride at a Time: Superhero Run for Prevention and Wellness Fair! All proceeds support families struggling with addiction and mental health in the Delaware Valley. Our prevention theme is especially relevant this year. The isolation, worry, and anxiety triggered by the pandemic have contributed to an increase in drug and alcohol misuse. These circumstances are having a devastating impact on children and families as a whole. The Superhero Run & Wellness Festival offers families prevention skills, builds awareness of substance abuse, and shares resources. Since we are virtual, how will this work? Although we will be apart, we will be spreading Superhero energy everywhere! Register for the virtual race at https://bit.ly/CGRC5K. Grab your cape or mask (or just your t-shirt) and post a picture on our social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) or send us an email telling us you completed the run. You can post your route, your costume, your time, anything and everything you like! Then, you’re officially part of the Superhero team! You have until October 31, at 5 p.m., to complete your run or walk and let us know.

Visitors will tour the historic site using a modified version of “The Voices of Eastern State” Audio Tour, the organization’s signature program. The audio tour, which is narrated by actor Steve Buscemi and features the voices of former prisoners and correctional staff, will guide visitors on a one-way path through the penitentiary complex. The modified route will include popular points of interest such as Al Capone’s Cell, Death Row, and the award-winning exhibit Prisons Today: Questions in the Age of Mass Incarceration. Visitors can also watch the 20 animated short films that were created by incarcerated artists for ESPHS’s 2019 project Hidden Lives Illuminated. It will be the first time that these films will be screened on site since public screenings on the penitentiary’s façade were completed last summer.
