DELAWARE COUNTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL LAUNCHES NEW EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER

- By Lisa Campbell

Delaware County Christian School in Newtown Township, Delaware County, opened its new Early Childhood Center for students in PK3-kindergarten on Sept. 1. The program is already nearing capacity, and the school is planning the addition of a PK2 classroom for the 2021-2022 school year.

DC’s Early Childhood center serves the needs of families who are eager for a quality Christian education for their young children. With a variety of half- and full-day enrollment options, Head of School Dan Steinfield explained that this new center is just one way DC is innovating to serve parents who desire flexibility, excellence and a Christcentered curriculum.

“This strategic expansion is a perfect example of DC’s promise to parents to prepare students for a life of impact through an innovative and exemplary education rooted in Christ,” he said.

The ECC is housed in a dedicated space on the DC’s Lower Campus in Devon, Chester County. ECC students are enjoying a new playground space and the opportunity to explore the school’s 30-acre property that includes outdoor classrooms, trails and a stream.

Rebecca Zaro is the director of this new academic program.

Most recently, Zaro served as a lead pre-kindergarten teacher at The Baldwin School in Bryn

Mawr, Montgomery County, and was previously a lead teacher at Ashley Hall School in Charleston, S.C. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education from Clemson University and an master’s of education degree in teaching, learning and advocacy from the College of Charleston.

Zaro is enjoying the opportunity to lead this dynamic program.

“Young children are naturally inquisitive and love to

learn,” she said. “They love to play, move and engage the world around them. DC’s Early Childhood Center provides a safe environment and learning community where children develop a sense of awe and wonder for God’s created

world. This, in turn, fosters a lifelong love of learning and provides a solid foundation for future academic success.”
