WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY: LOCAL UNIVERSITY, NATIONAL REPUTATION
In 1871, when the Normal School at West Chester first opened its doors, it offered a single program: a two-year course in elementary education. Today, West Chester University is an academic powerhouse that is home to more than 17,000 students enrolled in 118 different undergraduate programs, 91 master’s degree programs and four doctoral programs.
As WCU prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary next year, the future has never been brighter. The university has been recognized as one of the best comprehensive regional universities in the nation.
From a top-ranked online
MBA degree to its newest academic program — a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering — WCU remains on the forefront in doing extraordinary things.
In the current environment, some universities are putting plans on pause, but WCU continues to move forward with strategic initiatives to advance student success, including an anticipated 2021 opening of the Sciences and Engineering Center and the Commons.
The university continues to push the envelope in service delivery. When the decision to offer primarily remote delivery was made, WCU’s support services were ready for the task.
Services from
tutoring and success coaching to research help and campus librarians are available to students online just as if they were on campus.
And campus life? The University’s Student Affairs Division has even set up virtual opportunities for wellness coaching, multicultural mentoring, scavenger hunts and a speaker series that last year included weather forecaster Al Roker, actor Joshua Triplett and radio personality Sway Calloway.
From an initial program of 130 students to today’s 110,000 alumni, West Chester University continues to exceed expectations and meet the challenges of our day.
