Jeffrey’s off day another part of protracted rehab

The Eagles had hoped this week to ramp up the rehab of veteran wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, who hasn’t played this season in his comeback from foot surgery.

Jeffery was among nine Eagles who didn’t practice Thursday, a list that included starters Jason Peters (illness), DeSean Jackson (hamstring) and Avonte Maddox (ankle).

Also held out of practices were wide receivers JJ Arcega-Whiteside (calf) and John Hightower (illness), guard Jamon Brown (illness) and cornerback Trevor Williams (rib).

While the Eagles downplayed the day off for Jeffery, suggesting it was part of his rehabilitation process, it doesn’t bode well for a return this Sunday night against the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.

The good news is that All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (abdomen) practiced fully after being limited the day before, and offensive lineman Jack Driscoll returned after missing a day due to illness.

Limited in practice were offensive tackle Lane Johnson (ankle), safety Rudy Ford (groin) and running back Miles Sanders (glute).

The Eagles can’t win for losing.

The NFL postponed the Steelers game versus the Titans from Sunday to later in the season, not Monday or Tuesday night as originally planned.

In essence, the Steelers have the bulk of two weeks to heal and prep for Eagles, who they host Sunday, Oct. 11, COVID-19 willing. The outbreak stopping the game has originated from the Titans’ facility.

The Eagles (0-2-1) will be flying back from the West Coast after their Sunday night affair with the

49ers (2-1).
