Golden, Dougherty lead Carroll charge

Sienna Golden scored twice, and Karli Dougherty paired a goal with two assists as Archbishop Carroll broke open a scoreless game at half with five goals after the break to run away from Pope John Paul II,

5-0, in nonleague field hockey action Monday.

Cate McConaghy and Julia Kingsbury also scored for Carroll. Cindy Escudero kept the Panthers in touch with 14 saves.

TOWN1» Sophie Easter’s unassisted goal in the first half was the gamewinner for the Jaguars. Easter set up Alyssa Smith’s second-half insurance tally.

Tina Rawa had opened the scoring for Garnet Valley. Maura Greek and Megan Finnegan had two saves each in the cage for the Jags.

Kylie Gioia’s goal in the first half briefly restored the Tigers to level terms. Maya Thiruselvam made nine saves in net for Marple.

CONESTOGA2,HAVERFORD1» Reese Brennan scored a first-half penalty stroke for the Fords, but goals by Jessica Mullin and Kate Galica gave the Pioneers the win. Kailyn Distler made four saves for Haverford.

PENNCREST10,UPPERDARBY0» Liz Hussey’s two goals powered the Lions’ attack, on the way to a six-goal lead at the break. Sophia Talone, Sam Woolery, Julia Martini, Alana Laliberte, Genny Lilly, Annie Peyton, Janie Packman and Karley Stephens also scored for Penncrest.

Maggie Smith (16 saves) and Darla McCarthy (10 saves) were busy in goal for the Royals.

SACRED HEART 5, VILLA JOSEPH MARIE 3 » Mary Lauren Franz and Zoe Bounds scored twice each to lead the Lions to a victory. Hailey Silva also scored, and Abby Braun made

11 saves in goal.

Girls Volleyball

Liz Kurcon did a little of everything for Penncrest Monday, collecting eight aces, seven kills, eight digs and 10 assists as the Lions claimed a 3-0 win over Upper Darby.

Mary Kate Cosgrove served up seven aces to go with six digs as Penncrest prevailed, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-7. Ashley Rodgers paired five kills with 11 digs, Madison Marinelli had six aces and six digs and Leah Hall augmented her four aces with

16 assists.

Also in the Central League: RIDLEY 3, SPRINGFIELD 2 » Mackenzie Griffith was a monster for the Green Raiders with 13 kills and 21 digs as the Green Raiders rallied from down a set to win in five, 25

13, 23-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-7.

Abi Herrin paired 11 digs with 10 kills and six blocks. Casey Tinney dished out 27 assists to go with 12 digs, and Mia Campanile paired 14 kills with nine digs.

Jill Condi led Springfield with

20 digs. Baleigh Rhodes paced the attack with nine kills, and Katie Letcher dished 17 assists.

STRATH HAVEN 3, RADNOR 0 » Ellie Fisher posted a double-double of 10 digs and 12 kills to go with four aces as the Panthers won by game scores of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-9.

Olivia Dumont had 13 kills, 12 assists and four digs. Gabby Zweier served up five aces to go with four digs and 16 assists. Emily McGinn fired seven aces and four kills, and Emily Crowther (seven digs) and Megan Prendergast (11 digs) led the defense. Prendergast also served four aces.

Girls Tennis

Strath Haven’s Julia Anderson dropped the first set but gritted out a three-setter over Haverford’s Amy Cunningham to lead the Panthers to a 7-0 Central League win.

Anderson dropped the first set,

7-5. But she rallied to take the next two, 6-1 and 10-8 in the super tiebreaker.

Most of the matches, save for the first two doubles contests, were competitive. Sara Myers-Maloney and Claire Lowry won a 6-4,

6-3 decision at fourth doubles. Lillian Stienke battled with Catherine Corbett before prevailing, 7-5, 6-1, at first singles, and Jonie Mefford battled at third singles before Calli Sophocles earned a 6-2, 6-3 win.
