For unemployed or underemplo­yed residents, the DCWDB offers a wide range of services and job training in high-demand fields.

As we enter the eighth month of COVID-19 disrupting our lives we don’t know when our work, school, or community will return to normal. Though the uncer taint y of the times wears on us all, the added crisis of losing a job is impacting many of us. The Delaware County Workforce Developmen­t Board (DCWDB) stands ready to help residents stabilize their lives and prepare for the future with free career ser vices and job training.

Since March 13, 2020, more than 80,000 of our Delaware County neighbors have been laid off or furloughed from their jobs. Luckily most of these people have returned to work or found new jobs, but more than 20,000 people continue to be unemployed. For unemployed or underemplo­yed residents, the DCWDB offers a wide range of services and job training in high-demand fields.

A collaborat­ive network of PA CareerLink®, community-based groups, and workforce developmen­t providers offer jobseekers everything they need to get back to work. Experience­d career developmen­t specialist­s at PA CareerLink­s® help jobseekers develop résumés, conduct online job searches, practice interviewi­ng, and develop networking strategies. Free online workshops are available most days. For unemployed or underemplo­yed jobseekers who want to change fields, tuition assistance is available for job training in a variety of high demand sectors including transporta­tion, health care, and manufactur­ing.

The DCWDB also works with employers to help them find well qualified candidates. Free job posting directed to job seekers, job fairs, and targeted recruitmen­t services are available to Delaware County employers.

Our community persevered through eight difficult months by working together.
