100 Years Ago – 1920: Gov. Sproul and Charles M. Schwab, both masters of big business, Saturday night assured the business men and the laboring men of the nation that America was fundamentally and financially sound; that she had passed through the fire unscathed and would continue to maintain the economic leadership of the world. Those distinguished sons of Pennsylvania occupied seats of honor at the banquet of the Pennsylvania Society. The governor was the chief guest. Mr. Schwab, the president of the society, presided.
75 Years Ago – 1945:
Fellow union members, labor leaders, county political figures and John J. McClure paid tribute last night to Lewis “Aggie” Campbell, irrepressible unionist, at a testimonial dinner in Philadelphia. And by the end of the evening, “Aggie,” who was one of the organizers of Sun Ship’s Local 2 of the International Union of Marine and Shipbuilding Workers of America, returned the compliment to fellow union members, labor leaders, county political figures and McClure.
50 Years Ago – 1970:
The merit of a vocationaltechnical education for high school students was seriously questioned Friday by Rose Tree Media
School Superintendent.
Dr. Joseph D. Lapchick. “I am not sold on vo-tech education. I think there is something darn near immoral about asking a 13or 14-year-old to decide what he wants to do with the rest of his life,” he said in speaking at a luncheon in the Media Fellowship House.
25 Years Ago – 1995:
A naked man arrested in Kmart yesterday morning hit the road in the police patrol car when the officer turned his back, Clifton Heights officials said. When the blue light special sounded at Kmart, Baltimore Pike, it was to alert police of a man exposing himself on the premises. A routine arrest for indecent exposure escalated into a theft and a police radio bulletin to stop the Clifton Heights cruiser with a naked man behind the wheel.
10 Years Ago – 2010:
Break out the Patrón. “It’s a ritual we have as friends” for Eagles win, Sam Jacob said. Jacob and his buddies certainly had reason to enjoy a shot or two at Stinger’s Bar and Restaurant in Secane, where the Daily Times broadcasts a live Internet feed, as the Eagles piled on fourth quarter points against the Dallas Cowboys.
