Richard S. Mackiewicz
Richard S. Mackiewicz, age 87, a resident of Granite Farms Estates, died peacefully on December 3, 2020. He was a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather.
Mr. Mackiewicz was born and raised in Roxborough, Philadelphia to the late Paul and Mary Mackiewicz. He served in the U.S. Army before beginning his 42 year career as a Structural Design Engineer. He began with the Piasecki Helicopter Corp. and stayed through the transition to Vertol Aircraft Co., Boeing Vertol and finally, Boeing. He spent much of his career developing and improving the world famous Chinook series of military helicopters. Mr. Mackiewicz and Florence, his wife of 59 years, settled in the Rose Tree section of Upper Providence Township, Delaware County, where they raised their three children and were members of Covenant United Methodist Church in Springfield. Richard enjoyed creating and building from scratch everything from children’s toys to metal work fountains, large standing lamps, and stained glass. He often rewarded himself with his favorite candy, a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.
He is survived by his wife, Florence (nee Wenzel), children Karen Fullerton (Brian) of Princeton, NJ, Kim Kress (Michael) of West Chester, PA, and Paul Mackiewicz of Las Vegas, NV, and grandchildren Kyler, Callen, Ethan and Ryan.
