Merry Christmas Fund still far short of goal
Goal: $50,000
Given today: $ 1,050.00 Given to date: $12,550.00 CHESTER » The Salvation Army Chester Corps has been at work in December helping community members ahead of the annual Merry Christmas Fund food and toy distribution. The corps recently provided about 80 senior citizens with food baskets and hams for the Christmas season. With pandemic restrictions sidelining the annual Christmas party for shelter residents, area churches and service organizations are preparing food and clothing drop-offs for residents.
“People have been very generous this season; more than expected for these difficult times,” said Major Kathleen Calvo. Those who wish to donate food and toys directly ahead of the Merry Christmas Fund distribution may drop them off at the front entrance of the Chester Corps, 151 W. 15th St., between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Another five donations arrived for Merry Christmas Fund on Tuesday, led by a $500 gift from Shirley Ann Orr of Newtown Square. The donors are:
· Anonymous, $100: “In memory of Pete, Joan, Kay and John.”
· J. Richard and Maryann Volpe of Media, $300: “Thank you for all you have done over the years! “
· Shirley Ann Orr of Newtown Square, $500: “Thank you for all your many wonder ful ser vices. Merry Christmas to you all!”
