No. 3 UConn women roll over Seton Hall in Big East return

SOUTHORANG­E,N.J.» Paige Bueckers scored 25 points in her second game for No. 3 UConn, and the Huskies beat Seton Hall 92-65 on Tuesday night in their return to the Big East.

UConn (2-0, 1-0) rejoined the conference on July 1 after a seven-year stint in the American Athletic Conference. As members of the Big East from 1982-2013, Connecticu­t won 19 regular-season and 18 tournament league titles.

Christyn Williams added 21 points for UConn. Olivia NelsonOdod­a had 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds.

Lauren Park-Lane scored 29 points for Seton Hall (2-2, 0-1), and Desiree Elmore had 11 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.

Connecticu­t never trailed and led by as many as 29.

(10) TEXAS A&M 99, SAM HOUSTON STATE 69 » Aaliyah Wilson scored

17 points, leading Texas A&M (7-0) over Sam Houston (2-2).

The Aggies shot 59.7% from the field and had five players score in double figures. N’dea Jones had

15 points and eight rebounds, and Ciera Johnson finished with 12 points. Kayla Wells scored 11 points, and Jordan Nixon had 10.

The Volunteers held Appalachia­n State scoreless for the first

6:22 while jumping out to a 13-0 lead. The margin was 36-8 before the Mountainee­rs scored the last five points of the first half.

3-point shooting to beat Loyola of Chicago (3-1).

Wisconsin went 10 of 18 from beyond the arc and made four of those long-range attempts during a 19-2

run that helped the Badgers build an 18-point advantage in the second half.

Kofi Cockburn scored a career-high

33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in only 25 minutes to lead Illinois

(5-2) past Minnesota (6-1) in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Freshman guard Adam Miller added 14 points, while Trent Frazier and Ayo Dosunmu each scored

10 for Illinois. Dosunmu also had seven rebounds and five assists.

Florida’s Johnson speaking, calling teammates

GAINESVILL­E, FLA. » Florida forward Keyontae Johnson is speaking with family members and doctors and was even able to FaceTime his teammates, his parents said in a statement released by the school.

Nika and Marrecus Johnson added that they “feel so much love and support from everyone.”

“We’re beyond grateful for the care and attention that Keyontae has received throughout these past several days,” they said.

Johnson remains in stable condition at UF Health. He collapsed on

the court during a game at Florida State on Saturday. He was moved to Gainesvill­e via helicopter Monday with his mother by his side.

“We will continue to share updates about Keyontae’s health and progress,” his parents said. “We have seen how much people love and care for him. We hope people recognize that informatio­n that doesn’t come from us or the athletic department may not be accurate.”

USA Today on Monday quoted Johnson’s grandfathe­r, Larry DeJarnett, as saying the player had been in a medically induced coma.

Duke’s Johnson out indefinite­ly with foot injury

DURHAM, N.C. » No. 21 Duke says freshman forward Jalen Johnson is out indefinite­ly with a foot injury.

The team announced the injury Tuesday, saying the 6-foot-9 Johnson would not travel for Wednesday’s ACC opener at Notre Dame.

Johnson has started all four games, averaging 11.5 points and 8.3 rebounds with 2.0 blocks. Johnson had 19 points and 19 rebounds in his first game against Coppin State and was named league freshman of the week, but he had just seven points on 3-for-10 shooting in Duke’s loss to No. 13 Illinois last week.
