Michael J. Killian, 91, of Wallingford, formerly of Drexel Hill, died January 11, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his son, Joseph.
A member of the “Greatest Generation,” Mr. Killian was a true gentleman who was devoted to his family, courageous in service to his country, and an avid Villanova sports fan.
Mr. Killian was born on October 27, 1929 on Elfreth’s Alley in Philadelphia, the son of Mary and Joseph Killian. He graduated from West Catholic High School in 1947 and from Villanova University in
1952, where he was in the Reserved Officer Training Corps. He remained a lifelong Villanova sports fan.
After school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy, fought in the Korean conflict, and was a captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
He was married for 63 years to Jean (nee O’Connor) who survives him. Their love of family was central to their lives.
Mr. Killian worked as an engineer for Philadelphia Electric Company for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Killian is survived by six children, Katharine Shoff (Tim) of Lancaster, Laura Voigtsberger (David) of Drexel Hill, Barbara Horan (Bob) of Broomall, Joseph (Martina) of Drexel Hill, Bethanne of Springfield, and Amy Nardi (John) of Havertown;
10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, and several grand dogs and cats.
A funeral Mass for Mr. Killian will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, at St. Bernadette of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1035 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill. Visitation is from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment is private. Due to the COVID pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required.
