Expose Trump’s lies in impeachment trial

- John Lowmaster, Marcus Hook

Our country stands on the principle that all people have the right to exercise their freedom of speech and the right to a peaceful protest. This was not the case. The world witnessed the double standard in America policing and securing the nation’s Capitol with regards to race.

To the Times:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell just gave us a precious gift — time. Donald Trump is out of office regardless of the verdict of the Senate trial. If “rush the to trial” is not necessary, we can take the time to do a proper trial.

Right now we need the truth. Take the impeachment for what it is, an indictment. Handoff the evidence to investigators and prosecutors and let them do their job for a month, maybe two, but not longer. At the end, have them present the case against Donald Trump.

Republicans say this is a time to unify. Republicans are correct. But we will never have unity without truth. We all need to be on the same page, acknowledging the same facts, before we can ever have unity. It starts with the truth and a trial is an appropriate place to expose truth.

Trump is out either way. Put the big lie on trial. The lie that led to the insurrection. Go back to the election and explain how each state had their election, counted their election, audited their election, and certified their election. Show how Trump used the big lie in his attempt to invalidate the election. Lay out how Trump’s incitement to insurrection began months ago and culminated with his statements on Jan. 6. Expose his lie.

More than anything right now, our country needs the truth. Please take this opportunity to lay out the truth. As Bible says, “The truth will set you free.”
