Wong hits for 30, and leads Miami over No. 16 Louisville

CORAL GABLES, FLA. » Isaiah Wong, a Bonner-Prendergas­t All-Delco, had 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Miami beat No. 16 Louisville 78-72 on Saturday night to end an

18-game skid against ranked opponents.

Matt Cross scored 16 points and Elijah Olaniyi had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Miami. The previous time the Hurricanes (66, 2-5 ACC) topped a ranked foe was at No. 9 North Carolina in February of 2018.

Louisville (9-2, 4-1) rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit and got within 68-64 on Matt Slazinski’s three free throws with 2:21 remaining. Cross’ 3-pointer with

1:29 left gave Miami another seven-point margin.

Wong’s jumper with 5:29 remaining capped an 18-4 run and gave the Hurricanes their largest lead of the first half at 25-12.

Miami led 33-21 at halftime after Cross’ 3-pointer with 12 seconds left.

(20 BAYLOR (68), (15) TEXAS TECH 60 » Davion Mitchell had 19 points and Jared Butler finally scored late as Baylor (12-0, 5-0 Big 12) overcame Texas Tech (11-4, 4-3) to stay undefeated after the Bears’ closest game this season.

Butler, the preseason AP All-American coming off a season-high 28 points in the last game, was 0-for-9 shooting with six turnovers before hitting consecutiv­e 3-pointers for the Bears in the final five minutes.

BUTLER 70, (8) CREIGHTON 66 » Aaron Thompson scored 17 points and found Bryce Nze for the go-ahead layup with 1:08 left in overtime to complete Butler’s

(4-7, 3-5 Big East) remarkable second-half comeback against Creighton (10-3, 6-2).

Creighton scored the first two baskets in overtime, but Butler took over from there, scoring eight straight points over the final 3:07. Nze, who made it 67-66 with his layup, finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

(10) TENNESSEE 81, VANDERBILT 61 » Keon Johnson scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half, leading Tennessee (10-1, 3-1 SEC) over Vanderbilt (4-6, 0-4). (18) VIRGINIA 85, (12) CLEMSON 50 » Sam Hauser and Tomas Woldetensa­e had 14 points and four 3-pointers each as Virginia (9-2, 5-0) won its 11th straight over Clemson (9-2, 3-2)to stay perfect in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

(21) OHIO STATE 87, (14) ILLINOIS 81 » E.J. Liddell scored

26 points and Ohio State (113, 5-3) beat Illinois (9-5, 5-3) in a brutal Big Ten matchup.

The game was especially physical in the second half. One technical was called, on Ohio State’s Duane Washington Jr., and the officials had to step in many times to avoid fights.

NEBRASKA 63, (15) OHIO STATE 55 » Kate Cain brushed up against a rare triple-double and shorthande­d Nebraska (7-4, 5-3 Big Ten) bumped off Ohio State (7-1, 3-1), halting the Buckeyes seven-game win streak and dropping them from the undefeated ranks.

Cain scored 22 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked nine shots to lead Nebraska.

(19) DEPAUL 78, GEORGETOWN 54 » Sonya Morris scored 18 of her 26 points in the first half and DePaul (8-3, 5-1 Big East) beat Georgetown (1-3, 1-3).

(20) GONZAGA 76, SAN FRANCISCO 52 » Kayleigh Truong scored 17 points and Gonzaga (12-2, 7-0 West Coast Conference) rolled to its

11th straight win over San Francisco (5-8, 1-6).
