Police say they nabbed attempted murderer
CHESTER » Police announced the arrest last week of a city man wanted on attempted murder charges for allegedly cutting a man’s throat in an early-morning confrontation New Years’ Day.
Darryl Frisby, 40, was taken into custody about 1:15 p.m. Jan. 14 by members of the Chester Narcotics Unit who were following up on a tip that he was inside an apartment on the 1100 block of West Third Street, according to a release from Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky.
The assault took place about 6:21 a.m. Jan. 1, beginning inside an apartment where Frisby punched the alleged victim in the face, according to the release. The alleged victim attempted to flee by jumping out a second-story window, the release says.
“Once on the ground, the victim attempted to crawl away, at which time Frisby came up from behind the victim, pulled back the victim’s head, and cut the victim’s throat,” the release says. “The victim was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center and treated for multiple injuries including a laceration, puncture wounds, and a broken leg.”
Chester Narcotics Unit officers entered the Third Street apartment building where Frisby was reportedly staying and ascended a common staircase to approach apartment 3, according to the release. Frisby opened the door and was immediately identified as the suspect in the Jan.1 assault before he was taken into custody, the release says.
Police also allegedly found a full, clear glass jar containing suspected PCP on a dinner tray in plain view in the living room area, which was seized as evidence along with $623 in cash and a cell phone that Frisby had on him.
Frisby was preliminarily arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Tammi L. Forbes on attempted murder and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in two separate cases.
Bail in the drug case was set at 10% of $25,000, but was denied in the attempted homicide case. Frisby was transported to the county prison in Concord awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 26 before Magisterial District Judge Walter A. Strohl. No defense attorney is listed on court documents.
