Cobb goes long, Springfiel­d takes down Haverford

TC Cobb’s clutch 3-point shooting in the fourth quarter propelled Springfiel­d to a big victory over Haverford, 46-40.

What a difference a year makes for the Cougars, who notched one win last season. The Fords are defending league champions.

Cobb finished with 18 points and drilled two 3s in the final quarter to give the Cougars the lead. Springfiel­d outscored Haverford in the second half, 29-15.

Nick Colucci led Fords with 10 points. UPPER DARBY 38, PENNCREST 34 » AJ Tucker netted 12 points and Shareef Jones Jr. tossed in 11 for the visiting Royals, who outscored the Lions, 10-6, in the final stanza. Saahir Lee tallied a game-high 14 points for Penncrest.

Girls Basketball

Alexa Abbonizio swished the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to give Springfiel­d a 44-41 Central League victory over Haverford.

The Cougars (4-0, 1-0) trailed by seven points at the start of the fourth quarter.

Abbonizio netted eight of her game-high 14 points in the final eight minutes. Rachel Conran and Lexi Aaron each made three treys for nine points apiece.

Caroline Dotsey paced the Fords (1-2, 0-1) with 11 points.

Strath Haven 34, Garnet Valley 26: Danielle McNelly registered 13 points and Faith Raymond added seven for the visiting Panthers (2-0, 1-0), who held the Jaguars (1-3, 0-1) to eight points in the first half.

Ava Possenti paced the Jaguars with eight points and Jess Brewer had seven.

In nonleague action:

ML Franz produced a career high 15 points to go with five steals for the Lions, who led 23-6 at halftime. Kathryn Gallagher added

Boys Swimming

Jon Meyer bested the field in the 200 free

(1:51.71) and 100 free

(50.54) to help Haverford post a 105-71 win over Upper Darby.

Joe Barnes claimed victory in the 200 individual medley and Zachary Graaf touched the wall first in the 500 free. Graaf led off the Fords’ winning 400 free relay.

Luke Olmstead was a double winner (50 free, 100 backstroke) for the Royals.

Girls Swimming

Haverford won every event on the way to beating Upper Darby, 104-58.

Ellie Krissinger, Emma Wojnovich, Laura Seavey, Sarah Krissinger and Katya Eruslanova each won two races. Amella Ruzzi was the top finisher in the diving competitio­n and Kara Gardner took first in the 500 free.
