- By Dan Gelston

Four Delco swimmers will represent District 12 at the PIAA Class 2A Championships.

Bonner-Prendergast supplied both 100 butterfly champions in the District 12 Class 2A Championships this weekend at Alberta Morris Pool in Philadelphia. Grace McBlain won the girls event in 59.67 seconds, a margin of more than two seconds over the chasers. Joshua Travers was the only entrant in the boys 100 fly, dropping time to win in 59.87.

McBlain is the only girls qualifier from the Delco schools. She finished second in the 200 individual medley to Archbishop Ryan’s Hannah Storm.

Madison Gibson of Cardinal O’Hara was second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free. O’Hara also finished third in all three girls relays, ending up third in the team standings. Bonner-Prendergast was fifth.

On the boys side, O’Hara’s sprint prowess provided a pair of state swims. Donnie Hunt won the 50 free in 22.95 seconds, a race where teammates Ryan Cox and Aidan Wilson finished third and fourth, respectively.

Those three teamed with Jon Sandon to win the 200 free relay and book a states spot in 1:35.60, 4.5 seconds quicker than Bonner. O’Hara finished second to Archbishop Wood with the same foursome in the 400 free relay.

Wilson was second in the 100 free with Travers fourth and Cox fifth.

Karell Watkins and Fareed Burton Jr. posted double-doubles as Chester rolled over Chichester, 55-31, to go undefeated in the Del Val League for the fourth year in a row.

Watkins, the 2020 Daily Times Player of the Year, collected 26 points and 16 rebounds to help the Clippers wrap up the league title. Burton Jr. finished with 13 points and 10 boards. Josh Hankins pitched in with 17 points and five rebounds.

In the Bicentennial League: CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 61, DOCK MENNONITE 56 » Pete Cavacini was nearly perfect at the free throw line to pace the Crusaders to their second straight win.

Cavacini was 15-for-16 at the stripe en route to a game-high 28 points. Brian Justus enjoyed a perfect night from the field. He shot 5-for-5 and made his only 3-point attempt to finish with 11 points. Evan Sareyka pitched in with seven points for the Crusaders (5-7), who moved into the fourth spot in the District 1 Class A power rankings.

DELCO CHRISTIAN 74, PLUMSTEAD CHRISTIAN 54 » The Knights jumped out to a 25-14 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Jackson Mott led DC (9-4) with 17 points. Nicholas Phillipps added 13 points and Matt Shiel pitched in with 10.

Girls Basketball

Cardinal O’Hara celebrated senior night with an easy, 67-22 victory over Archbishop Ryan.

Maggie Doogan was the only player in double figures for the Lions with 10 points. Jule Stellabotte and Kaitlyn McPeak chipped in with nine points each and Siobhan Boylan had eight.

All 13 players scored for the Lions, who jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half and cruised from there.

Boys Hockey

Frank Jirak scored twice in a three-goal, second-period outburst that powered Interboro to a 7-2 ICSHL Ches-Mont win over Bishop Shanahan Monday night.

The Bucs tallied five straight goals after Luke Tomasic gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first period. Jirak finished with three goals and one assist. Bobby Brydges scored twice. Justin Davis added one goal and one assist and Anthony Petruzzo handed out two assists for Interboro.

In the Central:

HAVERFORD 10, GARNET VALLEY 0 » Jagur McClelland paced the Fords with three goals and one assist. Quinn Carson added two goals and two assists, while Paul Perricone, Mike McGeoch and Jacob Orazi added one goal and two assists apiece.

In the PCL-A:

ROMAN CATHOLIC 3, CARDINAL O’HARA 2 » Brennan Whittaker scored 1:13 into overtime to win it for the Cahillites.

Steve Graney and Julian Gavin had one goal each for the Lions, while goalie Ronan Marley made 19 saves.

PHILADELPHIA » Shake Milton scored 26 points, Furkan Korkmaz had 19 and the reserves sparked the Philadelphia 76ers to 130114 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night.

The Sixers followed one of their worst losses of the season to the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday with a smackdown of the mediocre Pacers. Joel Embiid had 24 points and

13 rebounds, and Ben Simmons had 18 points and six rebounds.

The All-Stars got their numbers.

The reserves got their highlights.

Milton sank three

3-pointers and Korkmaz hit six 3s in a game in which they got some time, turning it into a rout.

Korkmaz and Milton blew the game open for the Sixers in the second quarter and built a 20-point lead. Korkmaz, averaging 7.6 points, and Milton

13.4, about crushed those numbers in the quarter. Milton was 4 of 6 for nine points; Korkmaz sank four

3-pointers and scored 13. Embiid passed out of a couple of double-teams to find Korkmaz — nicknamed both Furky and Korky, you pick — and he buried 3s that opened up a double-digit lead.

Milton — in a move that would have made Allen Iverson proud — hit a crossover on Myles Turner that left him stumbling toward the basket. Milton buried the 21-footer that sent the bench into a towel-waving frenzy. Public address announcer Matt Cord even chuckled when he said Milton’s name for the basket.

Milton hit fellow reserve Matisse Thybulle on an alley-oop and found Embiid for an 11-footer to give the Sixers a 72-55 lead at the break. The Sixers’ bench scored 26 of their 39 points in the second and made five of their six 3s.

The Sixers, who still have the best record in the East at 23-12, were stunned by the Cavs in OT on Saturday. Coach Doc Rivers said the Sixers treated that one like a “walkthrough.”

They woke up against a Pacers team that has lost four straight games. Malcolm Brogdon returned from a one-game absence because of a sore right knee and led the Pacers with 20 points.

TIP-INS

Pacers: Doug McDermott left the game with

a broken tooth . ... Jeremy Lamb sat out with a sore left knee.

76ers: Tobias Harris, who averages 20.2 points, sat out a second straight game with a bruised right knee.
