100 Years Ago – 1921: Three persons were injured and an automobile almost wrecked in an accident last night on Concordvil­le Hill, Concord, when a large touring car piloted by George F. Wright, a representa­tive of the Fidelity Auto Co. of Philadelph­ia, crashed head-on into a heavy truck belonging to the P.E. Sharples Dairy Co. The more seriously injured of the trio was Mrs. Jennie G. Worstall, of Upper Darby, who sustained a severe laceration over her left eye when she was thrown against the windshield of the touring car. Her 16-year-old son, Charles, who was bundled in a blanket and asleep in the rear seat of the machine, received injuries of the face. The three were rushed to the resident of Dr. H.H. Darlington at Concord.

75 Years Ago – 1946: Actual work on the new $15,000,000 printing plant of the Curtis Publishing

Co. at Sharon Hill, which will employ 5,000 persons, got underway today when a battery of bulldozers and excavating machines started on the huge plant, one of the largest to be built in the county in recent years. The brief groundbrea­king ceremonies Saturday were opened by Walter D. Fuller, president of the publishing company, who expressed his appreciati­on to borough and county officials for their co-operation in getting the plant started.

50 Years Ago – 1971:

From the Associated Press, Harrisburg – Applicatio­ns for 1971 automobile license plates must be received by the State Bureau of Motor Vehicles by Friday to insure delivery by the March 31 deadline, a state official said Wednesday. About one million vehicle owners have not yet returned their applicatio­ns for the plates.

25 Years Ago – 1996: A Philadelph­ia man was arrested Tuesday night after Brookhaven police found him asleep in his idling car with three suspected stolen tires in the back seat. The 45-year-old was sleeping outside a home in the 100 block of Trimble Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. when Officer George Pappas rapped on his steamed car window, waking him up. State police were looking for the car in connection with the theft of three tires.
