Radnor School District gives greenlight for ADA renovation project to begin in April

A steering committee of parents, community members, staff, the school board and architects guided the Radnor High School ADA Accessibility and Wellness Infrastructure Project for over four years. The committee worked together to develop building and field renovations at RHS, designing them for universal access. Striving for a fully accessible campus and addressing longstanding safety and renovation needs at several highuse areas of Radnor High School, the Radnor School Board unanimously approved the awarding of bids

for general, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction on March 9 for the RHS ADA Accessibility and Wellness Infrastructure Project, paving the way for an April groundbreaking.

The $24.38 million investment in new construction will address outdated and inaccessible facilities at Prevost and Encke Fields, including new bleachers/seating on both fields, new walkways/ramps, and an adequately sized concession stand/field house between the fields, as well as the RHS pool area, fitness room, and locker rooms/ bathrooms, among other areas.

Upon completion of the project, currently estimated for Fall 2022, thousands of students, parents and community members from Radnor and surrounding school districts will experience fully accessible, navigable, and renewed facilities developed using the principals of “inclusive design.”

The awarding of the bids at the March 9 special School Board Meeting came after more than four years of public discussion and work on the project by numerous stakeholders. The steering committee met on dozens of occasions since it formed in 2018, including virtually throughout the pandemic. Community

events and numerous public committee meetings were also held to provide Radnor residents and other interested parties the opportunity for direct information-gathering and feedback.

A ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for April. For more information, visit www.rtsd.org/page/22379/.
