O’Connor, Romolini help Springfiel­d stop Radnor in Central hockey quarters

Ryan O’Connor and Dominic Romolini each had a goal and an assist as No. 3 Springfiel­d downed No. 6 Radnor, 5-1, in the Central League boys hockey quarterfin­als Monday night.

The Cougars advance to Tuesday’s semifinals against the winner of the late game between Strath Haven and Ridley. Colin Hannigan, Ryan Kertis and Fran Doerr also scored for the Cougars.

Radnor struck first on the power play via Tucker Graham, but the lead didn’t last six minutes. Robert Hobbs made 31 saves in goal.

League playoffs: CONESTOGA 4, PENNCREST 0 » Jack Tabata scored twice on the power play, and Andrew Pisano had a pair of primary assists as the Pioneers advanced to take on top-seeded Haverford Tuesday night.

Gannon Walker made 26 saves in goal for Penncrest.

Girls Lacrosse

Central

Kait Henning scored three goals and added an assist as Garnet Valley rode a strong first half to an 8-6 win over Archbishop Carroll Monday in a showdown of girls lacrosse powers.

Maddie Kalish added two goals and two assists, and Sydney Pyon scored twice for the Jaguars. Sierra McLaughlin made six saves.

Julia Basciano and Emma Talego scored two goals each for Carroll.

PENNCREST 16, WEST CHESTER EAST 7 » Mia George scored three goals and handed out five assists as the Lions rolled. Kate Stanton had a hat trick.

HAVERFORD 12, UPPER DUBLIN 7 » Emma Rowland scored three goals and picked up eight draw controls as the Fords rolled.

Hillary Elsner and Grace Hetznecker added hat tricks.

RIDLEY 13, OXFORD 8 » Hailey Shanahan scored five times, and Emily Liberio registered four goals and an assist to lead the Green Raiders. Sydney Verlinghie­ri added two goals and a helper for Ridley.

AVON GROVE 20, MARPLE NEWTOWN 9 » Kylie Gioia scored seven goals and assisted on both of Olivia Ebersole’s tallies, but it wasn’t

enough for MN.

Baseball

Koll Peichel pitched an absolute gem, a completega­me one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks in a 3-0 Strath Haven win over Penncrest.

Peichel needed just 76 pitches to record 21 outs. Sixty of his deliveries went for strikes. Haven’s Sam Milligan singled, walked twice and scored two runs. Peichel and Michael Valente drove in runs.

Jake Moule had Penncrest’s only base knock. Kellen Davis allowed three hits, walking three and striking out 10 over five innings.

UPPER DARBY 7, LOWER MERION 4 » Colin Rimel had three hits and Sam Kimmel picked up two and scored two runs as the Royals scored in each of the first five innings. AJ Dicus also scored twice as the Royals rapped 15 hits.

Chris Zupito (double) got the win with four solid innings, allowing two earned runs, striking out eight and scattering four hits. Chris Chung finished the game with three no-hit innings, allowing runs.

RADNOR 10, SPRINGFIEL­D 8 »

Austin Marx homered for the second straight game, and Jack Pachella went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored as Radnor used an eight-spot in the fifth inning then held on through a Cougars rallied.

Will Reger contribute­d a two-run single among two hits, Owen Lewandowsk­i got the win by striking out five in two innings of scoreless relief.

OXFORD 16, SUN VALLEY 10 »

The Vanguards continued to fight after going down 13-1, but it was too big a deficit to overcome. Vinny Prioetto and Tyler Madison each had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored for Sun Valley.

Softball

Dakota Marshall’s bases-loaded triple was the big blow as Ridley scored five times in the bottom of the eighth, then held on for a 6-4 win over Garnet Valley.

Mary DelFera pushed the game to extras with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Madison

Chapman. DelFera scored Marshall with an RBI double, then scored on Mollie Reece’s RBI triple in the eighth.

That made a winner of Chapman, who went the distance with 17 strikeouts. GV’s Morgan Mesaros had a solo shot in the fifth; Annie Bechtold homered as the Jaguars posted three in the bottom of the eighth but couldn’t close the gap.

HAVERFORD 10, CONESTOGA 1» Emma Taylor tossed a four-hitter, striking out 10 and walking none for the Fords. Ava Cohen backed her with two hits, including a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Kerri McCallum singled, doubled and drove in two.

OXFORD 11, SUN VALLEY 8 » Lex Timlin drove in four runs and Brianna Lawson went 4-for-4, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Oxford. Lacie Gilpin added three hits, and Hailey Lipka bashed a two-run homer.

Boys Tennis

Jatin Prabhakar’s win at second singles powered Penncrest’s past Haverford, 5-2. Prabhakar won 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 over Justin Salvesen.

Cameron Fawthorp followed with a win at third singles for the Lions.

Penncrest also won a pair of three-setters in doubles, with James Rainey and Eamon Scanlon prevailing at second doubles and fourth-doubles pairing Ben Liebman and Josh Rodgers taking a classic off Gibson Hurst and Matthew Braunlich, 6-7 (9), 6-3, 11-9.

Haverford’s Matt Blickley survived a three-setter at first singles, topping Ben Chang, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

Golf

Anthony Carson birdied four of his first five holes for a two-over-par 35 at John F. Byrne Golf Club in a 255-315 win for Cardinal O’Hara over Father Judge. Thomas Larkin and Ryan Garvey both carded 37s for O’Hara.

Boys Lacrosse

Brennan Kaut handed out seven assists to go with a goal as Penncrest downed Devon Prep, 14-5.

Steven Woolery scored four goals. Chas Katz added a hat trick, and Jason Poole and Trey Pompetti had two goals and one assist each.
