Isaiah Wong is testing the NBA waters.

The two-time All-Delco selection from Bonner-Prendergast and sophomore guard at the University of Miami will enter his name into the 2021 draft but not sign with an agent, leaving him eligible to return to school.

Wong made the announcement via Instagram, thanking Miami head coach Jim Larranaga and former assistant Adam Fisher. He also thanked members of his family and support network for their help during the COVID-19 pandemic in particular.

“After thoughtful consideration and advice from the people most important to me, I will be testing the waters by declaring for the NBA Draft, while maintaining my collegiate eligibility at Miami,” Wong wrote. “I’m trusting the process and prepared for what lies ahead. Let’s work!”

Wong established himself as a sophomore, averaging 17.1 points per game, the leading scorer on a 10-17 Miami team that finished 13th in the ACC. The point guard started 26 of 27 games for the Hurricanes, adding 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He only shot 34.7 percent from 3-point range, though, down from 37.3 as a freshman. He supplied 7.7 points in 31 outings (13 starts) his rookie season.

Wong (6-3, 180 pounds) is a native of Piscataway, N.J. He spent his first two seasons at Notre Dame High School before transferring to Bonner-Prendie. Wong was the Daily Times Player of the Year in 2017-18 and an All-Delco the following year. He scored 1,279 points in two seasons at Bonner and 2,119 across four scholastic seasons.

Whether he ever ends up back in South Florida is an open question. Miami has lost three guards to transfers in recent weeks, the highest-profile being Memphisbound Earl Timberlake. Two other players transferred midseason, including Phillyarea native Nysier Brooks, who spent a year at Archbishop Carroll, to Ole Miss.

If Wong returns to college, Fisher will have an eye on him: He was the first assistant hired by Micah Shrewsbury when the former Purdue assistant took over as the head coach at Penn State.
