100 Years Ago – 1921:

The reception last evening to Gov. William C. Sproul in the Armory by C and C Companies, Sixth Regiment Pennsylvania National Guards, was one of the most successful and delightful social events. Many charming and distinctive styles were noticed. Looking more like a picture out of an 1850 story book than the wife of a very modern army captain, Mrs. L.E. Jones had a short frock made of Walter silk taffeta in silver grey. 75 Years Ago – 1946: A musical renaissance for Chester seemed virtually assured last night when representatives of civic, patriotic and labor union organizations met at Harry O. 50 Years Ago – 1971: Two persons were admitted to Delaware County Hospital in critical condition after a gun-fight between the Warlocks, Mongol and Pagan motorcycle gangs in Upper Darby early today. Township detective Jim Ellis said police received an anonymous phone call that members of the three gangs were arguing in the entranceway of the Gas Light West, 9133W. Chester Pike. A Warlock, 19, of Upper Darby, was shot four times in the back; a Mongol, 30, of Chester, was shot in the leg and stabbed in the back.

25 Years Ago – 1996: Three police officers hired within the past year -who then departed within months after hitting the streets -- prompted Upper Darby officials to try to recoup expenses in the future. “I would like to require a police officer to reimburse the police department in the event they leave within two years of being hired,” said Councilman Rudy D’Alesio, chairman of the public safety, estimating hiring costs at $10,000.
