Taylor’s bat backs her pitching in Haverford win

Emma Taylor used her arm and bat to power Haverford to a 13-0 Central League softball victory over Strath Haven on Friday.

Taylor tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brooke McKeown belted a homer with three RBIs and two runs scored. Gabby Mancuso had a double, singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

UPPER DARBY 22, LOWER MERION 7 » The Royals scored 17 times in the top of the fifth inning to erase a 7-5 deficit and eventually put the 10run rule into effect.

Alexis McElhone was 5-for-5 to pace the attack. Lucci Zimath (double, triple) and Nora Zakrzewsi (double) both went 3-for-5. Jamison Rosillio was the winning pitcher.

W.C. EAST 10, SUN VALLEY 1 » Sarah Powers knocked in Ally Sheppard for Sun Valley’s lone run. Anna Schwartz made two spectacular catches in right field for the Vanguards.

Baseball

Colby McNeely was nearly unhittable Friday.

The junior right-hander allowed one hit in six innings to lead the Haverford School to a 2-0 InterAc League victory over Springside Chestnut Hill.

McNeely fanned eight before giving way to Grayson Walker, who earned the save with a clean seventh inning. Mike Tallarida provided all the offense McNeely needed with a two-run homer in the fourth that scored Eric Genther.

MALVERN PREP 11, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 2 » Fran Oschell drove in three runs, and Lonnie White laced two doubles for the Friars. Connor Street struck out seven and allowed two runs in 4.1 innings to get the win.

Shane Lawler allowed four runs and fanned three in 4.1 innings for the Churchmen.

In the Ches-Mont League:

W.C. EAST 7, SUN VALLEY 1 » Dylan Marantino broke up a no-hit bid in the seventh inning.

Ty Coccia did not allow a hit or a run, fanned seven and walked four in six innings to get the win.

Girls Lacrosse

Archbishop Carroll’s defense did not allow a shot on goalie Bridget Robinson in a 16-0 victory over Bishop McDevitt.

Sienna Golden paced the offense with a goal and three assists. She also had five draw controls. Kiley Mottice added a goal and two assists. Karli Dougherty and Nicole Pawelec had a goal and an assist each. Sixteen Patriots scored goals.

In the Inter-Ac League:

PENN CHARTER 13, NOTRE DAME 8 » Ava Bleckley led the Irish with three goals. Katie Onderdock collected two goals, one assist and four draw controls. Megan McNeill tallied twice. Cat Leary had a goal and two assists.

In the Del Val League:

CHICHESTER 20, ACADEMY PARK 5 » Avery McLaughlin collected eight goals and two assists to lead the Eagles Thursday. Natalie Willoughby chipped in with five goals and two assists, while Meghan Murray recorded a hat trick.

SPRINGFIELD 9, C.B. SOUTH 6 » Erin DeStano’s five goals powered the Cougars. Claire Lynch added two goals and one assist, while Mia Valerio and Gabby Rizzio pitched in with one goal and one assist each.

Boys Lacrosse

Garnet Valley used a fast start to cruise to a 12-5 victory over Marple Newtown in the Central League.

The Jaguars had a 4-2 lead after one quarter and expanded that advantage to 10-2 at halftime. Joey Halloran and Max Busenkell led the way with three goals and one assist each. Ryan Nealon added one goal and two assists, while Sam DiTrolio was 15-for-21 in the faceoff circle.

Girls Track

Alexa Brown won the shot put and finished second in the discus, and Olivia Dumont captured the javelin to pace Strath Haven at the Cardinal Invitational at Upper Dublin.

Maggie Forbes was second in the 800. Rowe Crawford and Hannah Prokup went 2-3 in the 1,600. Gwyneth Stach placed third in the 1,600. Teaghan Sydnor was second in the 100 hurdles. Geena Seflin was third in the discus and Hannah Speilman placed third in the shot put. The Panthers also finished second in the 4 x 800 and third in the 4 x 400.

Denzie Cisco led a good day for Upper Darby with a victory in the 200. Alice Etienner took second in the triple jump. Rachel Graham was third in the high jump and the Royals also took third in the 4 x 800.

Nevaeh Davis of Penn Wood came home with two individual medals. She was first in the 200 and third in the 400. Sophia Hill of Radnor won the pole vault.

Anna Saboja earned two gold medals to lead Garnet Valley’s effort at the Warrior Invitational at West Chester Henderson.

Saboja led a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter hurdles with teammate Marina Kondo. Saboja then teamed with Alyssa Wert, Ronnie Filippone and Anna Archer to win the 4 x 400-meter relay. Kondo also brought home gold with a victory in the 300 hurdles.

Boys Track

George Okyne of Upper Darby had a big day at the Cardinal Invitational at Upper Dublin. Okyne won the 200, finished second in the 100 and fourth in the 400. Ibrahima Fofana was third in the high jump and the Royals also won the 4 x 100.

Enrico Faccio won both hurdles events to pace Strath Haven. Teammate Paul Faggioli was first in the 800. The Panthers were second in the 4 x 800 and third in the 4 x 400.

Penn Wood’s Beyan Washington took third in the shot put. The Patriots also were second in the 4 x 400. Radnor took first in the 4 x 800 and second in the 4 x 100, and received a third-place performance from Ethan Catoe in the triple jump. Josiah Bronkema of Delco Christian took second in the high jump.

Garnet Valley’s Nicholas Ha won the long jump at the Warrior Invitational with a personal-best of 21-2. Teammate David Burnshaw took second in the 400. Kevin Genthert was third in the discus for the Jaguars.

Boys Tennis

Nick Kemp and Alejandro Sanjoa needed a pair of tie breakers to pull out Haverford’s only victory in a 6-1 nonleague loss to Avon Grove.

Kemp and Sanjoa defeated Mark Davidson and Aidan Hannon 7-6 (72), 7-6 (7-5) to win at second doubles.
