Wayne’s Peluso, Sides shut down Marple Newtown

One run was all Wayne needed Thursday night. Pitchers Joe Peluso and Nate Sides took care of the rest.

Peluso and Sides combined on a four-hitter as the two-time defending Delco League champions topped Marple Newtown, 1-0.

Frank Saviski laced a two-out single in the top of the first inning to score Sides with the only run. That’s all Peluso and Sides needed to nail down the win. Peluso allowed four hits, fanned five and walked two in 6.2 innings to get the win. He got out of a first-and-second, one-out jam in the third inning, then retired the next 11 hitters in a row before giving up back-to-back singles to Mike Rinaldi and Eric Anderson with two outs in the seventh inning.

Sides entered the game and hit Mark Anderson before striking out Javier on three pitches to record the save.

Corey Woodcock had two of the four hits for the Black Sox. Steve DiStefano scattered five hits and struck out four in the loss. ASTON VALLEY 6, CHESTER 2 » Chris Murphy had it going on. The righty struck out eight in three innings to fuel the Knights.

Colin Smith went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and three stolen bases. Shawn Haut also had a double while going 2-for-4, while Shane Kelleher went 2-for-3. The Knights broke it open with four runs in the third inning.

In the Mid-County Senior:

GARNET VALLEY 4, ALDAN 3 » Sean Elison (double), Dan Mulvihill, Tyler Shankle and John Elison drove in one run each to back the complete-game effort of Ryan Dorosh, who finished with 14 strikeouts. Danny Close added two hits, including a triple.

Aldan rallied for three runs in the sixth inning but got no closer.

In the Mid-County Junior:

UDHL 5, ASTON VALLEY 1 » UDHL scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 deadlock.

Chris Zupito and Seamus Blaney (two hits) drove in two runs each. Blaney also scored once. Max Franzini had two hits and one RBI. Drew Kessler struck out three in two innings out of the bullpen to get the win.
