Widener Nursing secures more funds for Nurse Faculty Loan Program

Widener University’s School of Nursing was awarded approximately $180,000 by the Health Resources and Services Administration to participate in the Nurse Faculty Loan Program for the third consecutive year. The federally funded program contributes to increasing the number of qualified nurse educators in higher education by offering loan assistance for students who enroll in Widener’s graduate nursing education degree programs for the purposes of starting careers as nurse faculty. Since launching the program in 2019, the School of Nursing has funded more than 15 graduate students.

In a 2019-2020 report by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), nursing programs in the U.S. turned away approximately 80,000 qualified applicants from baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs in 2019 due to limited nurse faculty. This initiative was developed as a response to provide financial incentives for nursing students to continue on to an advanced nursing degree program and graduate into the role of a nurse faculty.

Artists and crafters invited to sign up for annual

Media Art Show

The 56th Annual Media Art Exhibit and Craft Fair, hosted by Delaware County News Network, will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, on State Street in Media. The show’s organizers are seeking artists and fine crafts people to apply for the opportunity to feature their artwork on State Street. The show seeks applicants who are quality woodworkers, sculptors, weavers, jewelers, potters and other fine craft artists. The deadline to apply is Aug. 1. The show organizers are looking for specialized, quality crafts. Items that are made with kits, “ready Mold” ceramics and crafts that are partially premade will not be accepted for exhibits on State Street, but may exhibit and sell in the Veterans Square area where non-juried art and craft vendors will be set up.

To be considered as a juried craft exhibitor, artists must present recent snapshots representative of their work, along with their application. Repeat vendors do not have to send photos.

In the juried show, art work and crafts will be separated on opposite sides of the street. Photographers and sculptors will be included in the art category. Exhibitors will be chosen primarily on the quality of their work.

This year, artists whose work is entirely original can take part in the “People’s Choice” voting. Artists and craftsmen will be given blank ballots to have available at their table or exhibit. Show attendees can vote for the best art and craft work and deposit their ballots at the voting station which will be set up at Plum Street Mall. Both artists and crafters will receive award ribbons.

Amateurs and professionals are welcome to apply. The only charge is a $120 exhibitor’s fee, which will be returned to applicants who are not selected for the show. To get an application, go online (www. delconewsnetwork), as soon as possible to insure inclusion in the show. To get an application, people can also email towntalkevents@yahoo.com or call 610-9152253.
