Bonavito’s homer in middle of Ampro’s comeback

Joe Bonavita’s three-run home run capped a 20-10 comeback win for Ampro Screen Printing over Carlson’s Auto Body in the opening round of the Brandywine Valley Senior Softball Associatio­n playoffs on Monday.

Mike Gervasi and Gary Zimmerman each added three hits as top-seeded Ampro recovered from an early 8-1 deficit to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 semifinal.

In the other Gold Division semifinal opener, Boss came back from an eight-run hole in the fifth inning to slip away with the win and series lead. The rally was paced by four hits each from winning pitcher Mike Szczerba, John Herr and Ray Fernandez.

Baseball

David Cage kept Upper Darby’s bats relatively quiet through six innings, allowing Media to gain a 6-3 victory and get the jump on a best-of-3 semifinal series in Mid-County Juniors play.

Bryan Brown closed out Cage’s nice start on the mound. Seamus Flaherty and Jeremy Cronin had two hits each and Tyler McLaughlin scored twice. Matt Vallone also had a run-scoring single for Media.

Game 2 is Tuesday at Springton Lake Middle

School.

In Mid-County Seniors play:

Garnet Valley scored two runs in the eighth inning of what had been a suspended game, thereby taking a 10-8 extra-inning victory over Narberth in the semifinal round. The game had been paused at 8-8 Friday night due to darkness. Stephen James and Ryan Dorosh combined for the winning pitching effort.

That win gave GV a pass to the Seniors division championsh­ip round against Broomall, and that game was tied when called by darkness, 7-7 after seven innings. That first game of the final will be continued Tuesday evening at Marple Newtown High School.
