Why we should skip the 2022 Olympics in China

- Mike Finnegan, Media

To the Times: Participating i n the 2022 Beijing Olympics is an unconscionable moral failure and Chris Freind’s 8/4 recitation of worn out rationalizations shows no critical value judgements in this whitewash of Chinese CCP atrocities. Chris soft pedals the Chinese imprisonment of the Uighurs by referring to it as human rights violations that term has lost it’s impact value.

Call it out for what it is: Forced labor, rape, murder, forced abortions and sterilizations against an entire ethnic group (can anyone say holocaust?). He than delegitimizes our legislator’s boycott effort by saying they’re trying to make political hay - how insulting. Were the George Floyd murder protests an attempt to make political hay? Chris naively says that by participating “... the world’s spotlight will shine on China’s transgressions... “Never happen. Any media coverage will be restricted by the CCP which will set down the rules beforehand. Recall how quickly the NBA’s knees buckled and along with Lebron genuflected apologetically to China after the Rocket’s Daryl Morey called out China for violating the rights of Hong Kong. China shut down NBA broadcasts in China due to Morey’s tweet - do you really think that China would tolerate any negative comments during the Olympics which are broadcast worldwide.

Why let Xi Jinping showcase to the world the success of a totalitarian regime achieved through the subjugation of the Chinese people.

To acquiesce and participate illustrates our tacit acceptance of China’s governing philosophy and concomitant atrocities and undermines the credibility of our rhetoric for democracy. The only significant international action we can take is not to participate thereby voicing our protest to the world community.
