100 Years Ago – 1921:

Three persons have been run down in Leipervill­e in as many months, and the general complaint is that along Chester Pike, the main thoroughfa­re instead of sidewalks, there are just “mountains of earths.” It is a point of similarity that in each of the trio of casualties the injured ones had to turn into the roadway when they drew up to the obstructio­ns, and then only to be run down by passing motor cars.

75 Years Ago – 1946:

Delaware County’s Housing Authority moved Thursday to take over the operation and management of the county’s federally owned 935 housing units. The transfer is expected to be made by Jan. 1. This step means that the local authority will be establishe­d on a working basis to administer public housing in the county for the first time since its appointmen­t 10 months ago. The projects it plans to lease from the Federal Public Housing Authority are: Tinicum Manor – 285 units; Highland Homes – 50 units; Upland Terrace – 250 units; Fairground Homes – 350 units.

50 Years Ago – 1971:

Sunday’s name may be changed to Rainday. It would probably be more appropriat­e considerin­g a view of the sun on Sunday has been almost nonexisten­ce to we earthlings for the past two months. This Sunday was no exception as over an inch of rain fell in the county cancelling Veterans Day ceremonies in most areas.

25 Years Ago – 1996:

A total of 15 people ranging in age from 19 to 24 were arrested on liquor law violations on Hog Island Road at the Delaware

River at the rear of the Philadelph­ia Internatio­nal Airport over the weekend, Tinicum police said. Police responded about 11 p.m. Saturday. All 15 individual­s were released after being issued citations.

10 Years Ago – 2011:

A young out-of-state driver blamed her GPS for causing her to crash her car into a tree in Middletown last week. The 17-yearold New Jersey girl was driving her 2003 Hyundai Sonata south on Route 352 near Pennbrooke Avenue around 9:29 p.m. Oct. 18 when the GPS instructed her to make a right turn. The driver turned right and crashed into a curb then a tree, according to Pennsylvan­ia State Police. The driver was charged with violating the state law that requires one to drive on roadways laned for traffic.
