Super stingy efforts by Ricci, Snyder help GV advance

A spectacula­r effort by defenders Natalie Ricci and Kayla Snyder helped No. 7 Garnet Valley to a 2-0 win over 10thseeded Central Bucks South in the second round of the District 1 Class 3A field hockey tournament Thursday.

Riley Gallagher’s goal with 7:25 left in the first period gave the Jaguars the early advantage. Hannah Long was credited with the assist.

Theresa Ricci scored unassisted late in the fourth period to seal the victory.

Maura Greek (three saves) and Alana Poole (four) shared goalkeepin­g duties for the Jaguars, who travel to No. 2 Souderton Friday.

In the Catholic League:

Bridie McCann’s hat trick and Michaelann Howard’s two goals guided the Pandas to victory in a quarterfin­al playoff match.

Olivia DiBona, Delaney Ford and Leila George each tallied a goal for the Pandas. Goalie Meredith Shallow stopped four

shots.

Volleyball

Cardinal O’Hara is one win away from a Catholic League championsh­ip.

Four hitters posted at least seven kills as the Lions swept Archbishop Carroll in the Catholic League semifinal round, 3-0. The scores were 25-12, 25-10, 25-15.

Maggie Doogan led the way with 10 kills and Jasmine Sullivan had nine kills, 23 aces and six digs.

Bridget McGuinn registered seven kills, two aces and eight digs, while Sarah Kelly added seven kills for the Lions (186, 12-0).

Julianna Cloran dished out 18 assists and four aces.

Water Polo

Gracie Sheehan registered six goals, one assist and one steal in Episcopal Academy’s 19-14 loss to Lawrencevi­lle (N.J.).

Berkeley Sando and Ava Hendrickso­n contribute­d three goals apiece.
