Katherine Wesley Le Guin White
On August 31, 2021 “Kitty” Le Guin White died peacefully at her Swarthmore, PA residence on the eve of her 85th birthday.
A native of Hampton, Georgia, she graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, received her Master’s in Hospital Administration from Duke University, and her Ph.D. from Emory University’s Institute of the Liberal Arts with a study on medicine and suffering. She was a certified physical therapist and served as Director of Physical Therapy Programs at Rutgers University, UMDNJ, and Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Residing in Atlanta, GA, Camden, NJ, Havre de Grace, MD, and Swarthmore, Kitty cultivated an extended family of friends who shared her interests in Jungian studies, art history, literature, history, music, cooking, horticulture, and the intersection of the humanities and medicine.
Her beloved husband, Robert Blackistone White, parents Fred and Grace Le Guin, and sister Martha
Francis Le Guin Gay predeceased her. She is survived by the children of Martha Francis, Alana Gay Salter and Bert Gay, and by her cousins, LaTrelle Brewster and Dr. Charles Le Guin.
The ceremony interring her ashes in the White family grave at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA was a celebration hosted by her dear friends, Randy and Jodi Geyer of Havre de Grace and their two sons, Thomas and Jack.
Kitty White died gracefully and with the same fearless integrity as she had always lived. We shall never forget her companionship and her model for us of an inspired life.
