100 Years Ago – 1921:
The declaration that she “had to do something to earn a livelihood for her paralytic husband and six small children” was made by Mrs. Laura Kendre, of 721Hinkson St., Chester, following her admission that she had decided to make “moonshine whiskey.” The Kendre home was raided last night by detectives and officers and three inmates taken into custody, following the discovery of an overturned still in the cellar, several barrels of “mash” and a quantity of new-made liquor.
75 Years Ago – 1946:
All Republican candidates piled up commanding majorities in Delaware
County on Tuesday as more than 113,500voters cast ballots in the first post-war congressional election. E. Wallace Chadwick, Chester attorney, polled 75,540 votes to win the congressional seat by a majority of 37,430 votes over Vernon O’Rourke, Swarthmore college professor, who polled 38,110. This feature contest in Delaware County saw the college professor defeated in this third successive try for Congress. 50 Years Ago – 1971: Dr. Harry C. Donahoo, who was Chester supervisor of health during the massive influenza epidemic of 1918 and who completed 65 years of medical practice, died at home Friday afternoon. Honahoo was 93 last month. In 1905 he moved from his native Maryland to Chester and was associated with Dr. S.V. Hoopman, near Third and Kerlin streets. He opened his own medical office about 1910.

Dr. Jill Biden will be the special guests for the 51st Annual Delaware County Veterans Day Celebration Event in Media, organizers announced. Media Mayor Bob McMahon and Veterans Legacy Project Executive Director Bob Dimond said Biden’s attendance came through the recommendation of several Pennsylvania officials who have supported this particular event during the last decade.
