Penn-Delco voters made a big mistake
To the Times:
To those in Aston, Parkside and Brookhaven who re-elected four Penn-Delco School Board members to another four year term, I challenge you to attend a PDSB meeting and then say that the nine members are o competent. They appear to have no idea what goes on in classrooms of the district schools. Many are like children themselves and often refer to the only local educational experience they have: observations of their own kids.
One member repeatedly appealed for help comprehending district finances at Wednesday’s budget discussion, claiming that she “just wants to understand it” and that she has been “negligent” about spending time working on it. This director has been serving for ten years.
The district had a chance to vote for four well-qualified school board candidates, two of which have teaching experience. But name recognition appears to be all it takes to keep an elected position in PDSD. Aren’t voters interested in the reason why one member doesn’t work for Brookhaven Borough any longer? Were voters really unaware that another member did not attend any board meetings this year, until the one right before the General Election? Both successfully retained their seats.
The president of the board sarcastically referred to the Gov. Wolf’s announcement Monday , mentioned the subsequent court ruling that voided the school mask mandate and said, ‘of course’ the Governor was appealing. He alluded to the absence of the Chester County Health Dept. in regard to the new approval of vaccines for children, seemingly unaware of the ability of kids to get their shots from the Delaware County COVID Taskforce. One location of the task force is in Aston off Dutton Mill Road — near the PDSD Service Center where the board was meeting.
The Sun Valley High School principal recently resigned, as have several teachers. Democrat or Republican, residents of the district should be concerned about this attrition. Attend a PDSB meeting and observe its function for yourself.
Parents and voters of our three towns should expect more from their School Board.
