- – COLIN AINSWORTH

100 Years Ago – 1921: “The consumer is king; not the dealer.” “Remove the cobwebs from the business shelves.” “Advertise well known lines of goods and carry less lines.” These were some of the cures suggested by C.C. Parlin, of Philadelphia, for business of the present day and in the future.

Mr. Parlin addressed the Chester Kiwanis Club and 50 of the leading bankers and captains of industry at the Chester Club yesterday at the weekly luncheon of the club.

75 Years Ago – 1946: A solution to the housing and eviction problem has been suggested by President Judge Albert Dutton MacDade, of the Delaware county Court. The answer, he says, might be found in the reconversion of the old jail at Media into temporary quarters for evicted persons, Thus far, the courts have been preventing, if possible, forcible evictions upon the streets.

50 Years Ago – 1971:

Two burglary suspects were flushed out by police dogs and captured inside the Strawbridge & Clothier department store in Springfield early this morning after a massive three-hour operation which involved at least 60 men and 23 police departments.

10 Years Ago – 2011: Gail Johnson did not hesitate when asked how traffic has changed since she moved into the 600 block of Conestoga Road in Radnor 44 years ago. “Speed and volume,” she said. “We don’t even go out onto Conestoga unless we’re making a right and heading east. We are fortunate. We have a back driveway that goes out to Radnor Avenue.” Last week, representatives from the township, PennDOT and the police department gathered at the township building along with many concerned residents to talk about traffic safety on the stretch of road where two teenagers waiting for their school business in a driveway were hit by a car Halloween morning. A sixyear crash study by police revealed 22 accidents in the vicinity of the Oct. 31 incident.
