DeAngelo, Swarthmore pick up right where they left off

Swarthmore’s first home game in 600 days was a big success.

The No. 8 Garnet scored the first 10 points of regulation and cruised to an 85-68 over Neumann Wednesday evening at Tarble Pavilion

Sun Valley All-Delco Vinny DeAngelo poured in 13 points. George Visconti produced a gamehigh 26 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Garnet (3-0).

Five Knights (3-2) scored in double-figures led by Jalen Vaughns and Kyson Rawls with 16 points apiece. KJ Speller and Penncrest All-Delco Tyler Norwood each scored 11, while Tony James added 10. Vaughns led Neumann in rebounds with nine.

DREXEL 78, SAINT JOSEPH’S 75 »

Camren Wynter hit a jump shot with 32 seconds remaining to lift the Dragons over the Hawks.

James Butler tied a career high with 23 points in the winning effort. Wynter added 22 points and Xavier Bell had 10 points for Drexel (2-1). Jordan Hall netted 20 points for the Hawks (2-1). Taylor Funk added 18 points and Erik Reynolds II had 13.

Pat Holden shot 15-of-15 from the free-throw line and finished with 27 points to lead the Pride (2-1) to an overtime win on the road. Jared Peters (18 points), Matt Daulerio (14 points) and Kenny Lewis (10 points, 14 rebounds) all scored in double figures.

Women’s

Hannah Nihill scored the goahead

basket with 1:18 play and Drexel held on for a 71-66 win over La Salle.

Nihill, a two-time Daily Times Player of the Year from Cardinal O’Hara, finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Tessa Brugler had 17 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks for the Dragons. It’s the most blocks in a game by a Drexel player since 2010.

MONMOUTH 57, SAINT JOSEPH’S 45 » Kaliah Henderson led all players in points and rebounds, but the Hawks shot only 33.9 percent from the field, including 0-for-9 from 3-point distance.

Henderson posted 16 points and 10 boards. Alayna Gribble had eight points and eight rebounds.
