Nihill hits 1,000-point career mark in Drexel victory

Hannah Nihill scored her 1,000th career point Saturday as Drexel managed to fend off a charge by Maryland Eastern Shore, 65-60, in a women’s college basketball game Saturday.

The Cardinal O’Hara product and two-time Daily Times Player of the Year scored 15 points to go with seven assists. Tessa Brugler led all scorers with 16 points plus 11 rebounds. Mariah Leonard also picked up a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

VILLANOVA 55, SAINT JOSEPH’S 39 » Lior Garzon scored a gamehigh 26 points as the Wildcats limited St. Joe’s to 25 percent shooting (13-for-52) for their sixth straight win in the series. Brianna Herlihy tied a careerhigh with 12 rebounds to go with six points and four assists.

Mackenzie Smith led St. Joe’s with eight points.

LA SALLE 83, NIAGARA 71 » Claire Jacobs and Kayla Spruill tallied 15 points each as the Explorers jumped out to a 10-point lead after one quarter and held on. Jordon Lewis provided 16 points off the bench. Jaye Haynes paired eight points with seven rebounds. La Salle had 23 assists on 29 made baskets.
