Radnor, Penncrest top seeds in districts

The Penncrest and Radnor boys lacrosse teams earned the tops seeds in their respective District 1 tournament­s, revealed Saturday but unofficial until Sunday. .

Penncrest will meet eighth-seeded Pope John Paul II in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs Wednesday. Radnor takes on the winner of No. 17 Council Rock North and No. 16 Kennett in the second round of the Class 3A tourney Thursday. The Raptors defeated Kennett in the PIAA Class 3A final last season.

Elsewhere in Class 2A, No. 3 Marple Newtown welcomes No. 6 Bishop Shanahan to Primos Hoagie Stadium for a first-round contest Wednesday.

In Class 3A, No. 4 Springfiel­d and sixth-seeded Garnet Valley have byes to Thursday’s second round. The Cougars take on either No. 13 Methacton or No. 20 Upper Dublin, while the Jaguars play the winner of No. 22 Pennsbury

and No. 11 Wissahicko­n.

No. 21 Haverford makes the short trip to No. 12 Conestoga for a firstround match Tuesday at 4.

On the girls’ side, the Class 3A tournament gets under way Tuesday, but two Delco teams have first-round byes. No. 4 Radnor plays the winner of No. 13 Kennett and No. 20 Council Rock North, while seventh-seeded Garnet Valley takes on either No. 10 Great Valley or 23rd-seeded Council Rock North.

Penncrest qualified as the No. 12 seed and will host No. 21 Phoenixvil­le in the first round Tuesday. Fourteenth-seeded Springfiel­d hosts No. 19 Upper Dublin.

In Class 2A, No. 2 Strath Haven meets 15th-seeded Merion Mercy in the first round Tuesday. No. 12 Delco Christian travels to No. 5 Mount St. Joseph, No. 13 Sun Valley visits No. 4 Upper Moreland, and 16th-seeded Marple Newtown battles No. 1 Bishop Shanahan.
