Barberi hits and keeps on hitting for Shockers

Nick Barberi must have put on his hitting shoes when he rolled out of bed Sunday morning.

Barberi hit for the cycle to lead the Galle Electric Shockers to a 1712 victory over Opdenaker Trash in Game 1 of a Millennium Softball League doublehead­er. Brian Sloan was 4-for-4 and Rob Manton got the win on the mound.

Game 2 was more of the same for the Shockers as they cruised to a 19-8 win. Barberi stayed hot with a 3-for-3 effort.

In other games: BEHMKE CONSTRUCTI­ON 18-15, BRICK & BREW 16-3 » Tommy Nardelli was 3-for-4 with a triple and Jason Clue finished 4-for-4 with a tworun double in the opener for Behmke. Billy Schailey added two base knocks, including a triple, and John Kearney was the winning pitcher.

In Game 2, Brian Gross (3-for-3) belted a threerun dinger and Billy Schailey was 3-for-3. Dave Yarnall picked up the victory from the slab as Behmke notched its fourth win of the season.

Baseball

Kyle Gaffney twirled a one-hitter with nine strikeouts to help the Top Lumber Expos to an 8-1 decision over the Delco Tigers in MSBL action.

Gaffney contribute­d with the bat, too, recording two doubles, a single and two ribbies. Ben Mutz and Kevin Archer each collected three hits and two RBIs, while Gabe Encarnacio­n chipped in with two base knocks and an RBI.

Winning hurler Jay Aikens was masterful over six scoreless innings and Mike Espin pitched well in relief in his Springfiel­d debut.

Darnell Greene recorded a triple and three RBIs, Joey Travagline (two RBIs) smacked two doubles, and Mike Davis knocked in a pair of runs to carry the

Cardinals on offense.

Adam Beyers pitched five strong innings to get the win. He allowed only two hits while striking out six.

At the plate the Rays were buoyed by Anthony Monzo and Kevin Coleman. Max Fortuna made two diving catches in center field, both times with the bases juiced.
