Munro breaks pole vault record at Delco Championships

-

Daniel Munro broke the meet record in the pole vault and won the 110 hurdles at the conclusion of the boys Delco Track & Field Championships Sunday at Sun Valley.

The second day of the competition was pushed back more than a week because of weather conditions on May 7 and the league championship meets this past week.

Munro vaulted a personal best 15 feet, 5 inches to break the meet record of 14-11 set by Strat Haven’s Chris Williams in 2011. Munro led a 1-2-3 Penncrest finish in the pole vault. Jack Gallaher was second in a personal best 13-0 and Dylan DeJong was third at 11-0.

Munro also won the 110 hurdles in a personal best time of 14.58. The Lions also won the 4 x 800.

Academy Park’s Eric Wills took first in the 100 and second in the 200. Chester’s Walton Garnett ran a personal best 48.84 to win the 400. The Clippers also finished first in the 4 x 400. Steven Barnard and Joseph Durante of Ridley went 1-2 in the 1,600.

Penn Wood had a pair of individual champions in Kouto Anyika in the 200 and Terry Dweh in the 300 hurdles.

Cardinal O’Hara claimed gold in the 4 x 100. The Lions won the same event a day earlier at the Catholic League championships.

Ritvik Anumandia of Garnet Valley won the 800. Delco Christian’s Kouassi Toukou took first in the discus.

Inter-Ac League

Michael Woolery, Aidan McHugh and Dakin Ebmeyer pulled off the rare distance triple, sweeping the top three places in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs Saturday to lead Episcopal Academy to its first official Inter-Ac League boys track and field championship since 1979.

The Churchmen won the Inter-Ac League meet last year but league officials decided before the 2020-21 academic year that there would be no championships awarded due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Woolery won all three events, with McHugh second and Ebmeyer third to help the Churchmen pile up 184.25 team points. Woolery won the 800 in 2:01.29, the 1,600 in 4:27.53 and the 3,200 in 10:01.18. Woolery also led the 4 x 400-meter relay team to victory.

Mekhi Rodgers earned three gold medals. He captured the long and triple jumps. Rodgers tied an 85-year-old school record in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 10 inches, according to the team’s Twitter page. Rodg- ers also anchored the 4 x 100 relay to victory and was second in the 200.

Bryce Cooper also pulled off an amazing double. After win- ning the 400 he came back in the next event and claimed gold in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Cooper also ran the anchor leg on the winning 4 x 400-meter relay.

Joshua Allen of the Haverford School took the high jump with a personal best leap of 6-6, best by a county athlete this season. Patrick Donaher captured the shot put and Jey Brown was first in the discus.

On the girls side, Avery Elliott won the 110 hurdles and the high jump to pace Episcopal Academy to second place in the team standings. She also was third in the 300 hurdles.

Alexandra Gobran and Kathryn Lynn went 1-2 in the 3,200 for the Churchwomen. Saige Forbes captured the long jump and was second in the 100 and 200. Erinne Bresler and Tory Lynn were first and second, re- spectively, in the pole vault.

Temperance England took second in the shot put, Grace Galis was third in the triple jump and Mary Rossano was third in the 3,200 for Notre Dame.
