Suspect in fatal Chester shooting caught
Task Force nabs Chester man in Del.
NEW CASTLE » A Chester man wanted in the fatal shooting of Robert Dungeon earlier this month has been arrested by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, according to a release issued Monday.
Jihad Perry, 43, was being sought by law enforcement following the fatal shooting on the 1100 block of Hyatt Street May 5. Federal Marshals in Delaware and the New Castle County SWAT team helped Task Force members take Perry into custody about 11:30 a.m. Monday without incident, the release says.
Chester officers were dispatched for a report of a shooting at 14th and Potter streets on the edge of Widener University’s campus about 1:20 p.m. and found Dungeon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a press alert from Chester Detective Captain Matthew Goldschmidt.
Dungeon was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police determined the actual shooting took place a few blocks away on Hyatt Street and said the victim was transported to East 14th Street by a friend.
Chester police issued a warrant for Perry the following day and released an image to the press hoping for public assistance in tracking him down. The case was also referred to the Eastern Pennsylvania U.S. Marshal’s Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia.
Task Force members received information that Perry might be visiting a family member in Claymont, Del., and obtained a search warrant for a property in the first block of Glenrock Drive, the release says.
He is currently being housed at the New Castle County jail as a “fugitive of justice” and is awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania on murder and related charges.
The investigation was a joint effort between Task Force, the First State Fugitive Task Force in Delaware, Chester City Police Department, Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division, Pennsylvania State Parole and New Castle County SWAT team, the release says.
