One woman dead, man wounded in separate U.D. shootings
Upper Darby police are investigating two shootings in the township that left a woman dead and a man injured in recent days.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said police were called to the 7000 block of Clinton Avenue early on the morning of Thursday, May 19, for some type of disturbance inside the residence.
Upon their arrival they found an adult female in her 40s at the bottom of steps, deceased.
“She had a wound to her upper area of her neck area and upper chest,” Bernhardt said. “We were able to confirm from the autopsy that she was shot once in her neck.”
The victim’s parents were at home at the time they described a male approximately in his 20s, unknown to them, had fled prior to the police’s arrival
“We know there was some type of relationship between the two of them, and there was an altercation between the two of them up in her second-floor bedroom,” Bernhardt said.
The second shooting happened Saturday evening in the 7200 block of Bradford Road, Shirley Court Apartments, following a fight between two men.
Police were originally dispatched to the 7-Eleven convenience store in the 1000 block of Garrett Road for the report of a shooting.
Once on location, an adult male told police he had been shot once in the shoulder.
“He and another man had an altercation on the 7200 block of Bradford Road and the other man pulled out a gun and shot and he was hit in the rear shoulder,” Bernhardt said. “He was released from the hospital.”
Bernhardt said there is no threat to the community from these specific crimes, but the shootings are part of the rising incidents involving guns.
“There are too many guns in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them,” Bernhardt said. “Now because of the accessibility of all these guns on the street we’re seeing the gunfights.”
