Clarence “Bud” Bryan, Jr.

Clarence “Bud” Bryan, Jr. died peacefully on May 11th at the age of 87. Bud spent his life in dedication

to the Delaware County 4-H programs to God through his mission trips and volunteer work at his church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfathe­r.

After graduating from Governor Mifflin High School in Shillingto­n, PA in 1952, Bud attended Penn State University. He graduated in 1956 with

a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. He moved to Delaware County, PA to take the job of Extension 4-H agent. He provided leadership as an educator and volunteer for the next 62 years. While working with 4-H, he developed an indoor

gardening, embryo, hatching and “Where Our Food Comes From” programs for elementary school students. Bud always wanted young people to have the experience of raising animals so he worked with the Garrett Williamson Foundation to establish the Garrett Williamson Foundation to establish the Garrett Williamson 4-H Farm in 1985. In addition to the many members who raised farm animals and poultry there, thousands of school children participat­ed in educationa­l field trips. In 2018 Bud was honored by being inducted into The National 4-H Hall of Fame.

Bud was active in the community as the director of Media Food Bank for 11 years. He managed the Food Bank garden at his church which supplied fresh produce to the clients. He also fundraised for student recognitio­n for Media Rotary Club.

Bud and Sue moved to Lima Estates 5 years ago where he participat­ed in bocce, Wii bowling, table shuffle board, Canasta and calling Bingo.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Susanne Ether Bryan; his brother Robin “Skip” Bryan (Carol); 3 children Keith Bryan (Cindy), Kimberly Engleby (Joe) and Kristin Duso (Todd). 5 grandchild­ren and 1 step-grandson Kyle Bryan (Kristy), Kristopher Bryan,

Nicholas Hugo, Kathryn Balben, Zachary Hugo and Evan Duso. 3 great-grandchild­ren, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 11 am at First Church Methodist Media, 350 W. State St. Lunch to follow service.
